Passage: Matthew 5:1-2
Duration: 59 mins 19 secs
Every word in the Bible is breathed out by God and is “useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (2 Timothy 3:16 NLT) This is the case even for verses we might quickly read over and consider insignificant. This is certainly the case with the first two verses in Matthew 5. Yet these verses are not just an ornamental introduction to the Sermon on the Mount. These sentences are important and foundational to understanding the teaching that follows, so it’s good for us to give them closer attention.
