Passage: Esther 4:14
Duration: 47 mins 51 secs
From “before the foundation of the world” until all things are “made new”, the Almighty “who was, is and is to come” is writing the greatest story ever told. The story of history is God’s story. From creation to final consummation, God will be faithful to complete what He began. Though there are many supporting characters in the story, the story in Scripture is about God and his interaction with the world He made. The Bible reveals the plan of salvation and how God has accomplished that plan, first through Israel and finally through Jesus Christ. At the center of God’s story is found the story of God’s people – those He called to Himself and made His own. Within God’s story are families and individuals who, like Esther, find themselves sovereignly placed by God in “such a time as this”. Each of our lives is an extension of God’s Story – the only story worth living for, investing in, and ultimately dying for. Today let’s consider His Story, and where we fit into the greatest story ever told.

When Jesus commands us to “store up for themselves treasure in heaven”, He is giving to us a life changing treasure principle: “You can’t take it with you, but you can send it on ahead.” The keys to understanding this principle, and unlocking the treasure chest of joy our Lord desires for us to possess, has been the subject of our study in The Treasure Principle. The keys we have studied thus far are: 1) God owns everything; I’m His money manager; 2) My heart always goes where I put God’s money; 3) Heaven, not earth is my home: 4) I should live for the dot, not the line; 5) Giving is the only antidote to materialism.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus describes the character of those who are entering His kingdom. In Matthew 6: 19-34 Jesus is essentially saying, “This is what I want you to be like, free from anxiety, seeking My kingdom, and laying up treasure in heaven and not on earth.” In our study of The Treasure Principle we are learning the joy and freedom of trusting Jesus as the Lord in every area of our lives and treasuring Him and His kingdom above all else

Today we look at Treasure Principle #1: “God owns everything. I’m His money manager.” In Matthew 24 & 25 Jesus is talking about the end times, specifically addressing what does a Christian look like who is faithful in waiting for the coming of the Lord? In today’s passage we see that he/she looks like a steward who is faithfully using His Master’s assets for the glory of His Master. The result of faithful management is sharing in the Master’s joy!

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13: 44-46
