  2. Is there any person in your sphere of influence who you might consider the last person to choose as your “one?” How does this passage this week speak to that perspective?
  3. What elements of your own conversion story do you recall as you consider Saul’s in this passage?

  1. How would you recognize God’s sovereignty in where he has placed you and around whom he has placed you in your life? In what areas of your life do you need to recognize this and seek to align your life with God’s big story
  2. Read Luke 9:52-56 and consider how John’s heart for the Samaritans has changed in Acts 8. What has been the key to this change? What can we learn about how this kind of love is cultivated within our own hearts?
  3. How does the story about Simon demonstrate the necessity of repentance in our response to the gospel? What does it teach us about repentance? What can it teach us about evangelism?

  3. In these verses we begin to see the promise of Acts 1:8 unfold. What promises from Scripture do you hold fast to when you face hardship and suffering in your life or in the world? How do these promises refocus your eyes on God’s goodness and ultimate purposes?

  1. If pressed in a similar way as Stephen, could you narrate the Old Testament story that culminates in Christ if someone asked you to do so? How are you seeking to grow in your ability to give a faithful account of the grand story of God?
  2. What is your reaction to Stephen’s willingness to forgive his murderers? Do you need to forgive some people in your life? What advice would Stephen give you?
  3. It is clear here that Stephen viewed his accusers as primarily enemies of Jesus, not of himself. How does this perspective change the way we view the people in our culture who we would view as ‘enemies’? What happens when we get this backward?
